National Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is urging local people to sign up to become blood donors in Hythe, Fawley and Marchwood.
Amanda Whatley, Donor Relations Co-ordinator at NHSBT said: “Lots more blood donors are needed in these areas.
We would love to see the local community take advantage of our next session at Hythe Parish Hall on Tuesday 4th June.
Sessions take place between 1.30 – 3.30 pm and 4.30 – 7.00 pm so please make the effort to roll up your sleeve and save a life.”
NHSBT needs around 7000 donations of blood every day to meet hospital demand.
There are 4 main blood groups – O, A, B and AB.
Group O is the most common and therefore the most in demand.
A regular supply of blood is vital – red cells last only 35 days and platelets only 7 days.
Giving blood is vital to ensure that patients undergoing surgery and receiving treatment for cancer and blood diseases, such as leukaemia, continue to receive the transfusions they need.
To be potentially eligible to give blood you must be aged 17-65, weigh 7st 12lbs (50 kgs) and be in good health.
There is no upper age limit for blood donors who have donated in the last two years.
