Lloyd Recreation Ground: Trustee
History of the Lloyd Recreation Ground
The land was gifted to the Parish of Marchwood on the 16th November 1920 by the Lloyd family.
The first Trustees of the ground were:
- George William Lloyd
- John Rodney Lloyd
- George Samuel William Jebb
- Cyril Gascoigne Lloyd
- John Rodney Lloyd
- Henry Graeme Lloyd
- Caroline Doris Lloyd
- Kathleen Anne Lloyd
- Sir Morgan Croft
- The Rev. Courtenay Harold Wilson
- Henry William Sansom and
- John Arthur Verdon.
The Ground was originally called ‘Battleboyes Mead’ and was four acres, one rood and three perches in size.
An adjoining piece of land was called ‘Mead Close’ and this measured two roods and thirty-three perches.
An extract from the Deed of Gift dated November 16th, 1920
“The Trustee and the Survivors and Survivor of them shall hold the said premises hereby assured as a Recreation Ground for the benefit of the inhabitants of the Parish of Marchwood aforesaid, and to permit the same to be used for athletic and other sports, games and pastimes and other purposes of Recreation accordingly. The said premises shall be called the Lloyd Recreation Ground.”
Marchwood Parish Council is the Custodian Trustee of the Recreation Ground.
It is affiliated with the Charity Commission and our number is: 284618

The grounds have a Sports Pavilion, an under 12’s play area, a basketball hoop, a 5-a-side / tennis court and a football pitch.
The parish council’s ground maintenance staff is also situated here.
Lloyd Recreation Ground Court and Pitch fees are available from the Parish Council office. (Prices are subject to change)
Currently, meetings are called on an ad-hoc basis but once a year in May there is an AGM of the Trustee.
