Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust is holding a special information event on Friday, 27 January from 6pm, at the Trust Headquarters at Tatchbury Mount.

The ‘Medicine for Members’ event will be hosted by Dr Mayura Deshpande, Consultant Adolescent Forensic Psychiatrist & Clinical Service Director, and Mark Morgan, Director of Operations for Mental Health.

Dr Deshpande will offer residents from the local area an insight into the work of the different hospitals on the Tatchbury Mount site and how these specialised services work with patients.

Mark Morgan, Director of Operations for Mental Health, Learning Disabilities and Social Care will also be available to provide a look ahead at the key projects the Trust is working on.

This will include the Trust’s role within the Hampshire Sustainability and Transformation Plan as well as how the Trust is working more closely with families, patients, Governors and regulators.

The event is open to anyone and comes after recent feedback from our Members revealed that many people knew the site but had little knowledge of the specialist services based there.

Tatchbury Mount houses three specialist facilities – Woodhaven and its Ashford Unit, a low secure unit for adults with learning disabilities; Southfield’s low secure unit, a forensic unit for adults with serious mental illness; and Bluebird House, a specialist secure mental health inpatient unit providing assessment, treatment and care for young people with complex mental health problems.

Dr Deshpande, who is also a consultant at Bluebird House said: “A lot of very specialist care is provided on the Tatchbury site.

For instance, Bluebird House is one of only a handful of units in the country that cater for young people with such complex needs.

Helping more people to understand the care and support that we provide will hopefully remove some of the stigma attached to secure mental health services.”

After the presentations there will be a question and answer session where people will be able to ask about the topics covered.

Medicine for Members events give our members and the public the opportunity to learn more about the services we provide.

Each event has a guest speaker, which offers those attending the opportunity to hear more about different specialties and conditions and gives them the opportunity to ask questions in an open Q&A session.

There will be a number of different events across Hampshire throughout the year, which will enable local communities to learn more about the care we provide in their area and how the health service is responding to the many different challenges it is facing.

Booking is essential for the event, a place can be secured by calling 023 80 87 4390 or emailing communications@southernhealth.nhs.uk
