The council joined other local authorities, community groups and charities throughout the British Isles and Commonwealth countries in the Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth event to mark Commonwealth Day on Monday 9 March.
A specially written Commonwealth Affirmation was read out by the Chairman of the council, Councillor Maureen Holding, before the Commonwealth flag was raised outside Appletree Court.
Vice-chairman Councillor Alison Hoare then read out a message from the Queen, before Council Leader Councillor Barry Rickman raised the Commonwealth flag.
Councillor Holding said: “We are proud to be joining in this nationwide raising of the Commonwealth flag as an expression of commitment to the Commonwealth, appreciation of the values it stands for and the opportunities offered to its citizens around the world.”
