The New Forest is known internationally as an area
of great landscape and ecological value. It sits in
the centre of the New Forest District and has now been
designated a National Park. The New Forest National
Park Authority will be the planning authority for the
National Park from 1 April 2006; however, the
District Council will continue to undertake all its
other functions across the area of the National Park.
The National Park covers some 71% of the District.
Around the edge of the National Park are other important
areas requiring the highest standards of town and country
planning. These include the Cranbourne Chase and West
Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
to the north-west, the Avon Valley, the west coast
of Southampton Water and the coast of Christchurch
Bay. The towns and
villages in these areas contain numerous Conservation
Areas and Listed Buildings, and large areas of residential
and commercial development. The planning service at
New Forest District Council strives to protect and
enhance all of these areas whilst promoting economic
growth and essential facilities for the population.
The current local plan for the area is the New
Forest District Local Plan First Alteration adopted
August 2005.
In addition to the planning information contained in
our own web pages, there is a wealth of general planning
information and advice, including
whether planning permission is required and how to submit
an application on the Planning
Portal which is a website maintained by the Office
of the Deputy Prime Minister. You can complete
and submit an application form electronically via the
Planning Portal.
Planning in the New Forest National Park

been the responsibility of the National Park Authority. View

If you have a planning enquiry in the National Park area,
you will need to view the National
Park Authority website. If your enquiry is not in
the National Park, you should find it within this NFDC
website. |
