Residents can now ensure that they will have the right to vote by making a simple telephone call or by logging on to the internet.
The annual canvass for the register of electors starts at the beginning of September.
All homes in the district will receive a form showing who is registered at that property.
If there are no changes to make, residents may telephone using a freephone facility or log on to the internet to confirm their registration.
Details are on the registration forms.
If changes are necessary, residents have to amend the details on the form and return the form through the post. There is no need for a stamp - prepaid envelopes are provided.
The district council’s electoral registration officer, Chief Executive Dave Yates, encourages people to check their registrations and to use the telephone or internet facilities where possible.
He said:
“Confirming your details on the phone or internet is quicker for you and also saves the council administrative costs. It is very important that we receive up to date information on everyone in our district who is of voting age to make sure that we have their correct details on the electoral register.
“Two major elections are being held next year – for the European Parliament and for Hampshire County Council. We want to make sure that everyone who is eligible is able to vote. We ask all residents to help us with this by providing up to date information.”
