I have only been a Parish Councillor for a few months
but having lived in Marchwood for 20+ years decided it
was time to become more involved in our community.
I am married to Sally and we have 2 children, Tom and Esme, who both attended
our local schools but are now at Applemore College. I enjoyed a stint on the
PTA of Marchwood Junior School.
I am a keen sports fan, watching more than participating these days although
I still play and enjoy golf.
Regards,
Cllr David Porter
Hi, I have been on the Parish Council for a year and a half and currently serve
on the Amenities and Policy and Resources Committees.
I have lived in
the village for nearly six years, moving to Marchwood because we already
had family living here.
I have two children, Antoine who is nearly six
and attends the Infant School and Celine who is three and a half and
goes to Twiggs Lane Pre-school. My wife Christine is French and we met
on a twinning exchange. Christine comes from CC Loire Divatte which is
twinned with Totton & Eling.
I volunteered to be co-opted onto Marchwood Parish Council as I wanted
to do my bit for the village. In the time I have been on the Council
I have enjoyed working to achieve improvements for the village like upgrading
the play parks and supporting community projects.
I have also been frustrated
by our inability to influence the main problems of the village like traffic
volumes and speed and lack of facilities for the teenagers who live here.
No doubt all of these issues will keep me and my colleagues on the council
busy in the year ahead.
One thing I would really like to do is encourage you to attend a Parish
Council meeting. It is always rewarding when people of the village come
along and let us know what they would like us to do as their representatives.
For example, recently a delegation of youngsters came along to one of our
meetings asking for a basketball court in the village. Following their
presentation we decided to try and include this as part of the Cork Field
redevelopment.
If you don’t
tell us what you want or don’t want we aren’t able to take
your views on board. Saying that, I am regularly stopped by people in the
village who want to have their say.
If you have any problems or concerns or for that matter just want to tell
me what we have done well, feel free to contact me. All councillor’s
contact details are printed in the Village News and on our website. I look
forward to hearing from you.
Cllr Keith Petty
I’m Alison Hoare and I have been a Councillor on Marchwood Parish
Council for about 3 years.
I am currently Vice Chairman of Amenities, a Trustee of the Handy Trust
and represent Marchwood Parish Council on the New Forest Environmental
Protection Liaison Committee.
I will start with Amenities, which deals with the swing parks, rubbish
bins and public seating etc. It’s an on going project a bit like
painting the Forth Bridge.
Recently we have provided the over 12 play park
with a long awaited new safety flooring. We are, as I write, expecting
delivery of two new benches to go along side the Falklands War Memorial,
which is part of the Good Citizens Project we do in conjunction with Marchwood
Junior School.
Vandalism is still a problem especially graffiti. However,
Marchwood Parish Council and the Handy Trust have formed a working partnership
and have jointly employed a youth worker for 18 hours per week. His name
is Derek Hawkins and he is based in the Office at Lloyds Rec.
The New Forest Environmental Protection Liaison Committee meet 4 times
per year. We take reports from local industry, mainly on emissions and
noise pollution, some of the industries give talks about their firms and
how the companies are run. Also in attendance is usually somebody from
the Environment Agency.
As to the future I think one of the most pressing things to deal with is
the lack of any safe place to cross the road between Admiralty Quay and
Magazine Lane or Shorefield. As the industrial park grows Normandy Way
becomes more dangerous.
I would also like to see something done about the rubbish in the Village
Centre. This is quite a difficult problem as Marchwood Parish Council does
not own the land; for starters a bigger bin outside the chip shop would
help, if people would use it.
It has been an interesting 3 years, sometimes great at other times infuriating.
(I think our country is tying it self in knots with red tape.)
I would urge people to read the village notice boards especially the planning
applications as our village is under constant threat from developers. Marchwood
Parish Council can advise on planning but New Forest and Hampshire Councils
do not have to comply with what we advise and they frequently don’t.
Remember all our council meetings are open to the public and you might
find it interesting to see what goes on. |
