During the school break in April members of The Gospel Church, Marchwood were out in the community with a project called A.R.K., which stands for Acts of Random Kindness.
They spent a few days clearing rubbish from the streets and parks of the village with equipment kindly donated by New Forest District Council, and also delivered over 500 energy saving light bulbs in the village door to door (sorry if you did not get one, maybe next time!)
The reason for doing this is because they wanted to show God’s love to the community in practical ways. They wanted to show that they were not just about words, but about action too. They did this in conjunction with a national initiative called ‘hope08’ (for more information visit www.hope08.com) which is encouraging churches across the nation to live out the words of scripture that say such things as ‘faith without action is dead’ (James 2v26).
Pastor David Cole of The Gospel Church said:
“Jesus was out there in His community showing love and care for people in relevant practical ways, and so, as those who walk in His ways, we should do that too.
Christianity is not just about coming into a building and being part of a service, it’s about real people and their real lives in the real world.
God loves and cares for everyone, what ever we think of Him, so we want to show that in practical expressions”.
Look out for more of A.R.K. throughout the year!
