One subject high up the community plan questionnaire list of things people told us they didn’t like about Marchwood was the smell from the sewage treatment works, which is particularly strong now the warmer weather has arrived. To find out the facts behind how the plant operated and to discuss what could be done about this, the plant manager Mike Targett invited me to visit the plant (3rd May).
This proved to be a very informative visit and the good news is that positive work is under way to address this issue. Mike has recently undertaken a formal odour survey of the site and identified the two main areas on the plant causing the problem. To resolve this, he is investing in a new form of odour suppressant system, which will be in place during May.
We should therefore see a big improvement in the coming months. Why not let me have any comments on this subject during June and I will be pleased to feed them back to Mike on my next visit. If there are positive comments on noticeable improvements, then I’m sure Mike would be delighted to hear them.
