5th New Forest East Marchwood Scout Group
Scouts on Parade
St Georges Day Parade - This year our scout group led the parade which meant that our scouts carried the Union Jack, the flag of St George and the district flag.

All sections of our group were well represented and the boys looked very smart. The service took place at St Andrew’s Church in Dibden Purlieu. The annual St Georges Day parade is where all sections in the New Forest East Scout Council renew their promises.

World Jamboree 2007 – We were all delighted to hear that one of our scouts, Andrew Hargroves, has been accepted to take part in the World Jamboree next year, he is one of only 72 boys and girls selected to attend from Hampshire. In 2007 it will be 100 years since the scouting movement begun and so the camp is being held at the Scout HQ in Gilwell near London.

There are expected to be over 40,000 boys and girls from all over the world at the event. Andrew now has to raise the money to attend the camp; the cost of £1,150 also goes towards financing the fees for representatives from poorer countries. The scout group in Marchwood will be helping Andrew to raise some of the money needed. However if anyone would like to give money towards the cost then please contact Brenda Knight on the number below.

Plant and Cake Sale - We held our Plant and Cake Sale during May. Thank you to everyone who supported the sale. The money raised will be put towards improvements to the scout hut.

Beaver Colony - The Beavers had an interesting trip to an observatory where they were able to look through a telescope and powerful binoculars. The children saw Saturn with its rings; the moon close up; different star groups and the space station flying overhead. During the summer their topic will be ‘caring for yourself and others’.

Cubs Pack
– The Cub pack spent last term thinking about communication. They have written secret codes, messages in invisible writing, learnt to use a mobile, public phone and telephone directories. They also used timetables to plan a trip to the Isle of Wight using different forms of transport. The boys have also been busy sewing their own flags so that they can learn semaphore – ever seen twenty boys asking to sew?!

This is the 90th birthday of Cubbing and so the boys spent an evening thinking about the life of their founder, Lord Baden-Powell and how he started Scouting.

Two boys, Matthew Hargroves and Laurence Baker, have attained their Chief Scout Award which is the highest training award that a Cub Scout can achieve, our congratulations goes to both of them.

Scouts - The Scout Troop have had a visit to the Army Camp Fire Department to help them with their work towards the Fire Safety badge. They have also been dismantling various electrical items to find out how things work. The scouts are also working on making their own film. During the summer they are hoping to have more outside activities and will be preparing for the scout group camp in July.

For any enquiries regarding the Scout Group or to put your child’s name down on the waiting list for Beavers, please contact Brenda Knight on 023 8086 5012.
