Marchwood Church of England Infant School sent birthday cards and loyal greetings to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on the occasion of her 80th birthday. They also celebrated the day by holding a Royal Tea-party Day at school.
All the pupils and staff dressed appropriately as Kings and Queens for the event. The day began with assembly where everyone was able to show off their costumes and give the royal wave. The children learned the national anthem and many facts about the monarchy.
Following assembly the Year One classes learned to do a Scottish dance entitled “The Queen’s Birthday” it had been specially choreographed by Maureen Parker one of the school’s Learning Support Assistants and also a qualified teacher of Scottish dancing.
Year Two played a Royal Who wants to be a Millionaire and win the royal coins and Year R celebrated by building castles and learning how to bow and curtsey!
The children were able to have a Royal Banquet at lunchtime, enjoying roast beef and Yorkshire pudding followed by jelly and ice-cream. The school is taking part in the Hampshire Healthy Schools Award and each child received a certificate to remind them of their wonderful meal.
In the afternoon everyone met in the playground to eat birthday cake in the late spring sunshine. As the day ended and parents arrived to collect their children they all declared the day a great success and as The Queen has another birthday in June – perhaps it can be celebrated again. |
