The Police ask that members of the Public contact the Police immediately if they witness what they believe to be a criminal offence and if they observe a criminal offence taking place there and then, for example criminal damage to a bus shelter.
Please can they contact the Police on 999.
The Police would ask that if possible to make a record of description of offender(s), please try to get a detailed description of clothing, for example - a dark blue tracksuit top with two white stripes down each arm and horizontal yellow stripes down the back.
The Police often require direction of travel of offenders and vehicle registration so remember to make a note of these details. Details such as this can be stored on a mobile phone.
The Police would also like to point out that you can, if you feel it necessary, take a picture of the offender. We would advise that you do not ask the person to pose. If a picture can be taken discreetly then this would reduce any confrontation.
I MUST POINT OUT THAT THIS IS NOT THE POLICE TASKING MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC TO TAKE PICTURES.
Lastly I would ask that any incidents of anti social behaviour be reported to the Police. There may not be a immediate response but if we receive calls about the same area then it will give the Police the basis for a patrol strategy.
