Twiggs Lane Pre-School is 21 years old this year. Since it first opened in 1985, approximately 8,400 pre-school sessions have been held and nearly 700 local children have attended the school.
The school has seen many changes over the years, and thanks to successful fund-raising and donations, together with the commitment of staff and parents, the setting has developed over time to provide an exciting, colourful and varied environment for the children, both indoors and in our outdoor play areas.
As for this year, our main topic this tem has been nature and we have been exploring the outside environment in many different ways. The children have been looking at mini beasts such as worms and insects, and notably learning about the life of butterflies and a ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ wall display. We have also been bird watching and the children have had a lot of fun spotting the different birds that have been visiting the pre-school garden.
The children have also been looking at planting and learning how a seed can grow into flowers. They have had the opportunity to plant a sunflower each so they can see how it grows over the summer.
The Twigglets are also looking at the subject of caring and sharing and they have been learning how to help each other in many different ways. For this they have been working together to do puzzles, play ball, and taking turns in other activities.
They have also been devoloping their fine motor skills in preparation for Infant School. For this they have been using scissors, learing to put on their own coats and practising writing.
In May the Twigglets had their annual trip to Longdown Dairy Farm and at the end of June the pre-school children will be holding a sponsored event.
The term will finally end with our usual Teddy Bears’ picnic in the pre-school garden, and this year we will be extending the party to celebrate our 21st Birthday.
Please remember it is never too early to register your child for pre-school, please call in and collect an application form. We have been OFSTED inspected and are registered for the Nursery Education Grant.
