The Spring Term ended with the pre-school Easter fete which proved a great success, raising over £200 towards the school funds. Everyone had a lot of fun taking part in the activities, which concluded with a colourful Easter Bonnet parade where the children could display their creative and at times sensational designs.
The theme for the Summer Term at pre-school has been ‘People Who Help Us’. Over the weeks we have been looking at some of the people that are involved in the children’s lives. We have focused on teachers who help us learn; dentists who help to keep our teeth healthy - the children had lots of fun making their own toothbrushes; and we have also been looking at the Police and how they help to keep us safe. The children have benefited from the visit by local Police Officers who have talked to the children about Road Safety and Stranger Danger.
During the Term we have also been looking at people who help animals. For this topic we have been learning about vets and also places such as the Hedgehog Rescue Centre, who kindly visited and talked to the children about what they do. We finished the term with a nature watch where the children had a lot of fun spotting animals and insects around them, whilst at the same time learning about the importance of caring for living things around us.
‘Helping out a Home’ is another topic the children have been learning about . A home corner was set up in the pre-school where the children could take part in all the different jobs and activities that need to be done in and around the home.
The older children at pre-school have also been looking at how they move along the path towards independence. For this they have been encouraged to work by themselves in groups on different topics such as Maths, and Book Week during which the children had lots of fun dressing up as their favourite character.
During the Summer Term we also made our annual visit to Longdown Dairy Farm and Poultons Park, and we finished the term with our traditional Teddy Bear’s picnic in the pre-school garden.
Finally, we wish the older children ‘good luck’ as they leave us to join the Infant School, but we also look forward to welcoming the new children who will be joining us after the Summer break. |
