One of the high points of the spring term for both Junior Club and PowerPoint was our Mums’ Night on the Friday before Mothering Sunday.
We had made invitations inviting our mums to a
slap-up meal, and asking for their menu choices of starters, main course and desserts. On the night we laid out the tables properly, including candles confetti and flowers, and dimmed the lights. When our mums arrived they were conducted to the tables and offered drinks.
As the evening progressed they were served by their children with their meal choices, whilst Sion played light classical music in the background. After each course the tables were cleared, and the washing up done out of the view of the mums, who were able to just sit and chat.
At the end of the evening the mums all went home with a little package of sweets. Many of them remarked on how well the young people had done everything, and how the service and the food were better than you could get in many restaurants.
Our only problem was that the dads started asking when it would be their turn! But we’re already onto that, and have planned a Dads’
Breakfast on the Saturday before Fathers’ Day.
