The purpose of the Exhibition held on 7th December 2006, was to allow residents of Marchwood an insight into the design of the power station, ask questions and meet the Project Team face to face.
In all, 75 villagers (and a small number of children) visited throughout the afternoon and early evening.
Reassurances were given to minimise the impact on the local area during the projected 30 months construction, ending in Summer 2009.
I was pleased to note that they will be making use of the Solent in transporting major construction material for the plant.
Main issues raised were as follows:
- Traffic Movement Impact on television transmission
- The route of the gas pipeline Colour of the power station
- Noise (during and after the build) Hours of working during construction
- Emission levels Use of solar panels
- Visual impact of the plant What are they going to do for us!
Marchwood Power is keen to establish links with primary and secondary schools and a commitment to this was further established at a recent Working Group meeting.
One couple claimed that they were unaware of the power station project and felt that they had no prospect in selling their home.
The general feeling was along the lines “We don’t want it, but it’s not going to go away – so lets minimize the impact”.
