Bus Passes (free from April 1st 2006)

Some senior citizens are not aware that a Concessionary Travel Scheme is operated by New Forest District Council for the over 60s. Both men and women are eligible at this age!

This scheme enables card holders to travel on buses at half the normal fare but from April 1st it will be completely free to travel on buses and the Hythe Ferry.
Disabled people can apply for taxi vouchers to the value for £40.00.

A passport sized photograph is required, this to be returned with the application form. Application forms can be obtained either from the New Forest District office at St. John’s Road Hythe, or from myself on telephone number 023 8066 7095

Age Concern New Forest East

The Podium Foot Health Clinic in Marchwood Village Centre, in conjunction with Age Concern, is offering concessionary rates for the over 65s every Thursday morning. Please telephone 023 8086 9080 for further information.

Free Home Fire Check: Is you home safe from fire? Do you have smoke alarms?

Smoke alarms are the first line of defence against fire. They are designed to detect fire in its early stages and give you those precious few moments to get out safely. Hampshire Fire & Rescue Service is providing a home fire safety check, will fit smoke alarms where necessary and give advice on the action to be taken in the event of fire. This service will be provided free of charge.

PS: Smoke alarms are now available with batteries that last up to 10 years.

Low Cost Handy Man Service

Community First New Forest now operate a Repair with Care, Non Profit Handy Man service. It supports older people, 60+ or people with a disability in receipt of income support or pension credit.

A trustworthy reliable Handy Man can carry out a range of minor repairs or adaptations in the home at a very low cost. No job is too small. Examples include fixing/changing taps. repairing toilet cisterms, building a small ramp, putting up curtain rails to name but a few.
