Introducing Cllr Rowlands
Cllr Geraint Rowlands
Cllr Geraint Rowlands
Geraint “Rolli” Rowlands age 45 - Married to Linda (born Africa Drive) for 21 years, blessed to have one son Sion age 19 who works in the main kitchen at Marchwood Military Port, where I happened to finish 14 years in the Colours in 1991 (coincidentally whilst living in Africa Drive!).

I have worked for Hampshire County Council as an administrator since 1991 (whilst continuing in the Territorial Army at Millbrook until 2002). I found time to manage  local boys football from Marchwood under the auspices of Dibden Metros, and later helped out with Hythe Strikers and Langley Manor somehow fitting in a free taxi service to a number of the village children who I am pleased to call friends in their adulthood.

Since 1999 I have been elected as full time trade union convenor for Unison, and represent 6,600 members across Hampshire County Council.  It is from this knowledge base and being freed of the commitments my son mainly imposed on me that I felt able and willing to give something back into the community.

If I were granted a wish, I would have a by-law each morning and afternoon that prevented lorrys from going through the village - this would encourage more children and their parents to walk to school in a safer environment.  And if I had two, a disabled car parking bay that gobbled up anyone without a blue badge “just popping over the cash machine..”

Having spent several years supporting people in and out of work with their disabilities, I also strongly and publicly advocate for women and young people, by encouraging them to break down barriers that  middle aged stereotypical males (of which I have now become one) put before them.

Get rid of the barriers and everything becomes achievable ....
