Chairman’s Report
Cllr D Hindle
Cllr-D-Hindle
Over the past few weeks traffic issues have dominated the village. New traffic calming measures have been installed on Main Road and should significantly slow down the speed of traffic along that very busy stretch of road.

Other areas of the village are also affected by traffic in a other ways, Tavells Lane residents are subject to a lot of traffic coming from the Marchwood bypass and speeding along that road. Hythe Road suffers from HGVs and a lot of traffic at certain times of the day with the school run.

A combination of both these makes life very difficult for pedestrians in that area. The Parish Council are consulting Hampshire County Council about both these issues and will report back in due course. However, I stress that all of us, myself included, like our cars and are loathe either to slow down or even walk on short journeys.

The Parish Council welcomes 3 new members; Fiona Hardy, Sharon Thery and Rolli Rowlands. I hope that you enjoy being on the council and bring new ideas to the problems we face in the village.

The Parish Plan Steering Group has finally got underway. We now have a small hardworking group of villagers who have formed a committee to progress this plan. If you are interested in joining this group then you will be made most welcome. This is a great opportunity to find out about the village and also to influence what goes on in the village in future. The group will be looking for volunteers and also ideas. So please do contact Graham Walmsley who is secretary of the group. He can be contacted through the Parish Council Office.

I was at a wedding reception recently which was held in the Village Hall. A number of people remarked to me that the village was very lucky to have such an amenity close by that could be used by everyone. These were people who did not live in the village and it was gratifying to hear good things about our Village Hall.

I think many of us do take it for granted and if you do stop and take a second look at the amenities we have close by then you realise that we are very lucky. We have good schools in the village, we are well served by a network of roads, shopping is close by and the New Forest, one of the nations jewels, is within spitting distance of us. Let us enjoy the area we live in and be thankful for what we have.

As many of you will know there has been a prosecution for mindless vandalism and graffiti recently. This is a good thing and the parents of the person prosecuted has contacted the council and procedures are in place for the offending graffiti to be removed. The vast majority of our young people work hard in school and are a credit to us. There are many organisations in the village that cater for the young and do a great job in entertaining and providing an outlet for our young people to feel valued.

I am probably preaching to the converted but I hear that quite a number of residents don’t read the Village News. We use this as a vehicle to provide you all with up to date information about what is going on in the village. Can we improve the Village News? What would you like to see in the Village News. Is the format O.K? Are there enough articles of interest? If you have any ideas please contact us through the Council Offices.

Darryl Hindle,
Chairman Marchwood Parish Council
