“Marchwood Parish Council a Quality Parish”
This page was last updated on Thursday March 24, 2005
Quality Parish Status was formally bestowed onto Marchwood Parish Council after satisfying the Accreditation Panel’s criteria.
A certificate was presented to Parish Chairman, Cllr Darryl Hindle, prior to the meeting of the Council on 13th December 2004 .

The Chair of the Accreditation Panel, Mrs Diane Andrewes, said:
“The Quality Parish Status is awarded only to the “Supa-Dupa” councils, and Marchwood Parish Council should bask in glory, as the award recognises its quality.

Marchwood Parish Council has demonstrated that it engages with all parts of its community and is an effective, active and properly managed Parish Council. It has a strong focus in key areas namely that the Parish Clerk holds professional qualifications, the community receives a regular newsletter informing them of the work of the Parish Council and they regularly work with other community groups.

Marchwood Parish Council has met the main requirements of Quality Parish Status, and is to be congratulated, especially the Parish Clerk, who holds the thing together. It is also a team effort, and excellent work has been achieved.

An outline of Good Practice examples include:

• Encouragement for the public to speak at meetings - drawing the curtain back for the general public, and encouraging them to take an interest.

• Remarkable delivery system of getting the Parish Council Newsletter and Annual Report out to every household.

• The Parish Website

• Providing for Young People. The letters that have been sent to the Council from the Junior School indicate that the children are aware of the Parish Council and have an expectation that the Council will do something for them. This demonstrates the Council’s reputation and their approachability to young people.

• The Healthy Walks literature, co-operating with Hampshire County Council to get the message across.

•The Access point - enabling the public to gain information about District and County Council services.

• Very impressive links to voluntary organisations and the giving of grants to help in their good works.

I offer Marchwood Parish Council my hearty congratulations and look forward to hearing more of your ‘doings’ in the future. On behalf of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, I would like to present to you, the Quality Parish Council Certificate”.

Mrs Suzanne Hudson, Director of HAPTC, said:” I am delighted to be here this evening to endorse everything that has been said by Mrs Andrewes. Marchwood is a stunning Council, and the accreditation is the absolute proof. I pass on the greetings and congratulations from my colleagues and all at HAPTC, as we offer the Councillors, the Clerk and all the staff a “”Quality Parish Council” key ring each.

Chairman, Cllr Darryl Hindle, accepting the certificate, thanked them both for their kind words.
