The community wonder experience
- Getting youth involved.
It all started at the Elevation service (youth service
) that was held at the Marchwood Gospel Church on 21st
November 2004.
The main theme of the service was ‘Going
the extra mile’, based on Matthew 5 v 41- ‘If
someone forces you to go one mile, go with him
two miles’.
We were encouraged to serve God through our
community by going that little bit extra. Kate Conti,
a youth leader, suggested that people, especially youths,
should show pride in their community by volunteering to give up their Saturday
morning and go on a litter pick around Marchwood. Kate got in touch with Darryl
Hindle, Chairman of Marchwood Parish Council, and arranged
a date for us to totter around Marchwood picking up
litter.
So on the 27th November about 20 young people
accompanied by a few members of Marchwood Gospel church
walked to various areas of Marchwood on a mission to
clear up the litter.
As the litter picking was a great success Kate organised
for us o go around Marchwood and plant bulbs such
as daffodils and crocus. So once again we met at the
Gospel Church where we then set off to plant these
bulbs.
We planted bulbs around two trees in the field
behind St. John’s church and in the green areas behind ‘The
Limes’, and hopefully these will grow into lovely
flowers.
Both of these events were good fun
and we can’t wait for Kate to organize more events
that can help make our community a better place in
which to live.
