There’s no business like Show business!!
It was not all doom, gloom and mud at this year New Forest Show!
Spirits were high in the WI tent as Marchwood WI won a total of 21 awards in the Craft and Produce Show, these included FIVE GOLDS of which three were first places, and one for “Best in Show”! Plus six double silvers and six silver stars! What a result !
Congratulations to everyone who entered the competitions, also to the very hard working Tent Committee who produce a WI Show to be proud of year after year.
In June, Gwyneth Wright from Sopley WI demonstrated “Just Desserts” and showed the members how quickly a sweet surprise can be made with a minimum of ingredients and mostly from the store cupboard, everyone went home armed with the recipes and good pudding intentions!~
July’s meeting was the annual “Mock Auction” this was presided over by Nora Grace who managed to sell most of the donated items, sometimes very hard work it seemed, but most members bought something they did not realise they needed until Nora persuaded them!
At the Marchwood Fete the WI ladies became Medieval Matrons and not only kept the crowd supplied with “victuals” (home made cakes and tea) but also won first prize for the Adult Fancy Dress!! What a lovely day! Beautiful weather and real community involvement from all areas of the village.
Marchwood WI is open to women of all ages and has maintained a good membership since it started in 1921. There are always interesting speakers and interesting people to speak to. Come along and make new friends at the monthly meeting. These are held on the second Tuesday at the Village Hall and start at 7.15 p.m.
The WI is a powerful organisation countrywide, it gives all women a voice and enables them to make change in our world! |
