Lorry Ban
As most of you are aware the officer’s report was not supportive of a lorry ban. I have written to Martin Wiltshire Assistant Area Manager (Traffic Management), the officer who wrote the report, Cllr Ken Thornber, leader of HCC, Cllr Kendal, Portfolio Holder for the environment, Julian Lewis MP and Cllr Patricia Banks, Every Child Matters, highlighting my concerns for the safety of children walking to school and the fact that the survey was taken during the summer holidays 2006, which would not give a full picture of the problems in that area.
A meeting will now take place on August 20th to discuss measures that could improve the situation. Both Cllr. Alan Shotter and I will be attending, along with our Hampshire County Councillor David Harrison.
Flood Defences
This is at last beginning to progress. Various meetings have been taking place over the last 2 months which have been positive and constructive. As I am writing this the officers are writing up their report. Their recommendations will be discussed at Cabinet on 3rd October.
Community Speed Watch
Have spoken to HCC re the results of the Community Speed Watch trials which were carried out around Hampshire. The results from these are due at the end of the summer and have been promised a copy of the report.
It has been a very busy 2 months, have been attending a lot of training sessions which has been worth while. Have been lucky enough to get on the Planning and Development Control Committee which was what I wanted.
