GUEST SPEAKER
4. Jill Colclough reported on the progress of the RNAD site. The flood defence contract was now running and was hoped to be finished by mid September.
The footpath along the waterfront to be extended and once works have been completed, Hampshire County Council will pursue the Right of Way.
County Rights of Way have agreed to do improvement works to the existing Rights of Way footpath to the waterfront from the roundabout.
The promenade will have some minor enhancement works: new stainless steel bins, benches, dog bins and improvements to the grass, and signage. Shrubs will be planted to protect Magazine A as part of the flood defence contract.
Once both schemes are complete and the footpath has been adopted, New Forest District will come out and do regular sweeping and cleaning.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION:
5. The following questions and answers including those asked by Cllrs and members of the public.
Had consideration been given to the siting of the seats along the waterfront as the sea defence wall was quite high? Yes, this had been looked into and the benches have been sited to take advantage of high spots with views over the wall.
When will the adoption of the highways and footpaths be? At present Southern Water will not adopt as they consider the Pumping Station to be sub standard. Remedial works need to be done on the highways by Crest before they can be adopted and once the Flood Defence works have been completed it is hoped that HCC highways will push forward the adoption.
The grass verges along the waterfront is being maintained by District at present but hopefully passed on to Marchwood once works have finished.
Would there be the possibility of having signage on the bins requesting fishermen to use them? This could be considered.
Who owns the land at the entrance of Admiralty Quay (the mound)? Would there be the possibility of the Marchwood Conservation Group having a wild flower meadow? This land is not registered. Jill Colclough to look into the legalities of using this land for nature conservation.
Who owns blast walls around the development? They are all conveyed to the property owners and are listed.
